Objective: Do something amazing, preferably in Vermont, using my 15 years of professional IT experience and a lifetime love of technology.
Education: Autodidact
A standard résumé with job history and specific technologies I have worked with is available on request, but I would rather say simply that I develop software, using whatever languages and tools are needed. My preferences are Java, browser languages, and Unix. In my career I have also developed for mainframes and Windows systems.
The following blog entries show how I code:
CSS, JavaScript, HTML:
Automated form validation using JavaScript
Browser-based HTML editor (old, the only modern browser this still works in is IE)
Java Applets:
Non-Swing applet that solves Sudoku boards
Simple Swing applet to calculate a range of Fibonacci numbers
Java Applications:
Drag and drop image archive searching
Designing an Archimedean spiral generator
Perl:
A tutorial for mid-level perl hackers
An example of the expressiveness of command-line perl
Shell:
Example of functions and logging in Korn Shell (plus how scope creep and ill-defined requirements can quickly turn a project on its head)
SQL:
Experimenting with the best way to join three tables
Mainframe:
Using File-Aid in batch mode JCL to update multiple members of a PDS dataset
Compiling, linking, and executing a COBOL program using batch jobs
The following entries show who I am:
Volunteer work:
Teaching Excel to elementary school students
Mentoring a teenaged boy
Character:
What a good vacation looks like (plus why I love Vermont)
A good day coaching my daughter's soccer team
